Over on the Chromium Blog
(Chromium is the open source version of Google's Chrome web browser)
they have announced their intention to drop the H.264 video codec support from the <video>
tag
in favor of putting more energy behind WebM and Theora. Talking about a ballzy move, a great show of support for open standards and
open source.
Like John Gruber I fear this could hurt battery life on mobiles. Only time will tell but ultimately I hope they succeed.
